Siempre Tu Voz – Omara Portuondo y La Failde

Siempre Tu Voz is a tribute to Beny Moré on the

centenary of his birth. Though this might not be of the slightest interest to those interested in the music, unusually, it doesn’t have a catalogue number. Never mind, it does have Cuban diva Omara Portuondo, team up with Orquesta Failde to cover a range of El Beny’s hits. Many tunes will be familiar to people who follow Latin music, they have been covered many times over the years.
The album is based around fairly short, lushly orchestrated Boleros. Cha Cha Cha and a couple more rhythms are also represented. Not for the dance crowd but nicely arranged in places. My personal favourite is the Bolero, Como Fue, also covered by the late Ibrahim Ferrer.
