Okan Yoruba

£7.50£9.50

The initial need was to have their own music to

accompany the dance, but from this motive a representative part of the Yoruba folk repertoire was recorded in this album, interpreted by important exponents of this tradition.

This phonographic record was of the idea of Japanese dancer and singer Yuko Fong. She also pays tribute to an exponent of Yoruba folklore, specifically batá drumming, the maestro Ángel Bolaños, who performed the Iyá in this recording. Also featured are the bata drumers Julio Guerra (itótele) and Raúl Alapón (okónkolo) and
apkwón (lead vocal)  Jesús Lorenzo “Cusito.”  The chorus includes Rogelio Ernesto Gatell “El gato”, Yerilú Lugo and Yudileisy Valdés.

An album that maintains the rich Afro-Cuban folk tradition of Yoruba culture and disseminates it as a relevant part of Cuban culture.
