Jesus Alemañy’s ¡Cubanismo!
Released in 1996, this is the first CD from Jesus
Alemañy’s ¡Cubanismo! It’s fairly conservative even within the field of Jazz within which it was pitched. There are some famous names in the lineup, including Alfredo Rodriguez, who released his own CD on Rykodisc, also Tata Güines and Anga. Rojitas’s voice is distinctive on coros. Flautist Orlando Valle, aka Maraca, is also to be found, and he wrote several of the original themes.
The Alemañy/Durran writing partnership is promising but for me the covers work best. They’re just such good tunes.
